The goal of Envision Saint Agnes Hospital is to create a public art
installation, designed by Saint Augustine’s University students, that recognizes
this important Raleigh landmark.
A Cornerstone of Regional History
Built in 1909 on Saint Augustine’s campus, this four-story
structure was the second home of Saint Agnes Hospital (1896 -1961). Known as
“The Healing Place”, Saint Agnes served the African-American community for 65
years providing both nurses training and medical care.
Public Art Works!
The project will include the installation of a new fence along the Oakwood Avenue
boundary of the Hospital site. The new fence will be embellished with SAU
student artwork that celebrates Saint Agnes.
